Welcome Double Dots!

This classy girl retired from the track in the fall of 2009 after 29 starts and earning just shy of $42,000.  She deserves a great retirement and we're here to help her find it!  FFI was able to take in Double Dots thanks to a grant received by the Indiana HBPA.  Dot is currently awaiting an intake exam so that we know more about her future abilities, but so far, her foster home reports that she is easy to get along with, stands well for grooming, and is a quick learner.  She easily figured out lunging and when turned out in the arena, free jumped two small fences on her own.  Her foster home has already ridden her (just walk & trot) with no issues and reports that she has a comfortable gait. Click here for Dot's pedigree. More information will be available soon on this sweet girl.

Foxton Farm has canceled the Winter Reins Dressage show for Saturday, February 6th.  For anyone planning to attend and cheer on your favorite FFI horse, please note that they will be participating in shows at a future date.  The make-up day for the Feb 6th show is Saturday, February 13th.  The next scheduled show where FFI horses will be in attendance is Saturday, March 6th.  We hope to see you supporters there!

We're pleased to report that the 2008-09 Annual Report is now available here on our website.  Please be sure to check under About Us >> Financials >> Annual Report to see our beautiful full color report which details where our money comes from and how it is spent.  We're very pleased to make this report available to the public.

This story was originally published in the Indiana Horse Council's quarterly newsletter Take The Lead.

Stormy & LoriLori was conducting a equine rescue clinic when she met volunteers with Friends of Ferdinand, Inc. Having just lost a horse a few months earlier, Lori checked the FFI website and found Stormy, a 6 year old thoroughbred ex-racehorse available for adoption that preferred being a trailhorse, and she considered that Stormy might be her next riding partner. Lori participates in competitive and endurance trailriding, and comments that “thoroughbreds are not seen in these events, but they are ideally suited for the sport because they are built for speed and endurance”.

FFI would like to thank Foxton Farm of Romney, IN for providing discounted entry fees to horses currently in the FFI program.  We're excited to be able to show off the skills these horses already have, as well as help them learn new skills that will ensure successful post-racing careers.  Be sure to visit Foxton Farm's website and learn about their winter show series in both dressage and hunter/jumpers.
